1. Aim high, but also be realistic about where your paper could be accepted.树立高远目标，但同时要实际看待你的论文可能被哪些期刊接受。
2. Be aware of the journal’s content before submitting, to make sure it's the right fit. 在提交之前了解期刊的内容，确保选择了合适的期刊。
3. Explain in the cover letter the context, motivation and impact of the paper. Don't just paste the abstract.在投稿信中解释论文的背景、动机和影响，不要只是复制摘要。
4. Don’t worry about formatting in the first submission. That's for later.初次提交时不必担心格式问题，这可留到稍后处理。
5. Suggest reviewers (not your collaborators). Exclude a few reviewers if you must, but not the whole field.建议评审人选（不要选择与你合作的人）。如果必要，可以排除一些评审人，但不要排除整个领域的专家。
6. Deposit your data in a database before submitting; so that it doesn't slow things down later.在提交之前将数据存入数据库，以免以后拖慢进程。
7. Respond to ALL of the reviewer's comments. Track changes is helpful.回应评审人的所有评论，使用“追踪更改”功能会很有帮助。
8. Discuss your revision plan with the editor. You don't necessarily have to do everything reviewers suggest.与编辑讨论你的修订计划，不一定要完全按照评审人的建议去做。
9. If rejected, sleep on it before responding. The editor is sad about it too - and hate that part of the job. 如果被拒绝，先冷静一下再回应。编辑对此也感到难过，这是工作的不愉快部分。
10. If you have a question, ask to talk with the editor.如果有问题，可以要求与编辑交流。
